Roomie and I are once again on speaking terms.
Not much happened this week... I went to Weight Training for the first time. The teacher doesn't show up to that class. I have to email him twice a week and let him know to count me present. and i had to design a workout schedule. lol
So, I went to League City with my dad and Patrick on Thursday and left Friday morning. Patrick's court got rescheduled.
Now I'm spending the rest of the weekend at my dad's with Janna. Doing homework and watching TV.
Before I get to the title of this post, let me tell you about my weekend...
I went home to The LC and surprised everyone there!! It was super duper awesome!!
I got there on Friday around noon and went straight to the High school to see Mrs. Yancey! She was so happy to see me. :) We talked a lot about how school is going for both of us this year and how the bay harbourites are doing in college. :)
Then I stopped by the band hall, but nobody was in there that I wanted to say hi to. I grabbed some lunch and headed home and then shortly after I went to the Escalante's and just hung out there until Sofi and Gusti got home and I met them at the bus stop. :)
We went to the football game that night and it was pretty good to see everyone. I sorta miss being in the band...but not badly enough to join the one in college... it wouldn't be the same anyways.
Saturday, we hung out and had friends over and had a cook out. Yum Yum! Then, Saturday night, I went to Robert's aunt's wedding and got to see a few more friends and stayed out WAY too late. (3am)
Sunday, I got up and went to church and saw a lot more people and heard this AWESOME speaker, Don Piper, who is the author of 90 minutes in Heaven. Everyone should go read the book. now. :)
After church, I went to Mely's with Amy, Neal, and Savan. Then went home and hung out. Adri and I went to a party for like 45 minutes, which was pretty boring. and we got in trouble. but I won't get into it. :) Janna came over later and we had TACOS!! woo. :)
Monday, I drove back to college with Destiny.
....and now we get to the part about the title. My roommate put the air on 55, I got mad, so I locked the bathroom door(how she usually gets in and out of our room) and locked the front door and went to tyler to meet my parents to see a movie(Balls of Fury) and go eat.
It's not my fault she didn't have her keys. Anyways, when I got back, she was pushing the bed in front of the door so I couldn't get in. I pushed my way through anyways. She left and didn't come back, not even to sleep, until this afternoon.
Oh, and I got pulled over by a state trooper on my way back from Tyler. Oops. I just got a warning, though. "speeding in a 55".
It's been quite a week. Mostly just been to classes and whatnot, but I finally got out and went and did something. :P I went to sonic and walmart. woo. :D
Tonight is the Wayne Kerr concert here on campus. It should be good. My friend David is supposed to be preaching, too.
I'm sorry this post isn't longer. I'm not doing anything for Labor day weekend, so i probably won't update again until next week sometime.
oh! I did get mail...that was exciting!
Yesterday, I got up around 8, got dressed, did not feel well at all, went to weight training class...and IT WAS CANCELED! man oh man... I could've slept in until 10:30. Oh well, i ate breakfast and watched t.v. so it was all good.
At 11, I went to my orientation class. We went over the syllabus and filled out a questionare about ourselves. Then we went around the room and told each other our names, where we came from, what college we're going to after this, and 2 unique things about ourselves.
"Hi, I'm Sami Gilliam from League City, TX. After Lon Morris, I'm going to University of Houston Clear Lake, and I'm a preacher's kid and I'm blogging my college experience."
After class, I went to lunch and then I draw a blank on where most of the day went. At least 30 minutes of it went to sleep.
Around 5, I went to dinner with some friends. On my way to dinner, I couldn't see out of my right eye and I've been having really bad headaches lately. I talked to my mom and she said they might be optic migraines and to get more sleep.
I went to Government class tonight at 6, and there are probably 10 people in that class and I'm the only girl. Most of the people are high schoolers trying to get ahead. It meets in a computer lab, and the teacher said we could surf the web when we wanted, as long as we got our work done. :)
I've been told this blog is pretty boring, which is true. But, it's really just a reflection of what life in Jacksonville is like. :P So, anyways, to spice things up a bit, I'll tell you what happened around midnight here in the dorms.
I heard something being dropped out in the hallway, and i ran out there to find my roommate and suite mate launching chairs down the hallway at each other. It was pretty funny. Then they got mattresses and ran down the hall and sumo wrestled each other, then started sledding on them. My roomie wanted to go down the stairs on one, so i pushed her. Someone made the comment of "haha. her roommates the first to push!" I'm not that eager to get rid of her! I promise. :P Anyways, She went down the stairs on the mattress, only the mattress got stuck halfway down and she just flew off into the wall.
Today I have Physics, Religion, Service Learning, and Lab. I'm done at 3, and hopefully can get some sleep after that.
This past weekend was pretty good, I went to see Janna in Richardson. We had a good time. It was good to see her. :)
We went to some of her Christians on campus meetings, which were ok... not exactly my cup of tea, but hey whatever. :)
Saturday afternoon/night I went to Grand Saline to my parent's house to do some laundry and eat dinner and pick up my bike and some books. That was nice, we had an excellent, but HUGE dinner.
I drove back to Jacksonville Saturday night and made record time!
This morning, I got up and went to church. It was nice! I liked the Sunday school class I went to and the service was very nice. I got to see my old church choir director, Jerry Compton, and his wife.
Tomorrow I have school again, so I'll let y'all know how that went.
I started classes this morning... but let's go backwards for a few minutes.
Yesterday was a pretty good day. I slept in and then later on took a 4 hour nap. :) We had our Convocation at 7pm, and it was very nice. There was singing and a lot of speakers, including the chaplain, the president of the college, the mayor, the student body president, a few teachers, and a letter from state representative, Chuck Hopson, was read.
After Convocation, everyone went and changed clothes and then we had a pep rally scheduled from 9-12. It ended at 9:07. haha. but, it was also good. The dancers and cheerleaders did their routine and the basketball and golf teams were introduced, because they were having banners unveiled. The mayor and the president talked briefly again and then the banners were unveiled.
I have learned that this campus is incredibly diverse. There are probably 350 kids that go here, if not less, It's in nowhereville, TX, and there are multiple international kids that go here. To name a few, there are two kids from England, one kid from Ireland, two kids from South Africa, one kid from Australia, and a kid from Lithuania on sports teams. I know there are a few more that haven't arrived yet.
Anyways, moving on to today. My first class was Physics at 8:00a.m. We were out by 8:21, all we did was go over the syllabus. There were 11 kids in that class. I went to breakfast after that since I had time. Then, my next class was Intro to the Old Testament at 9:25. We got out by 10:20 and It seems to be a pretty good class. Challenging, but not too badly. The class was HUGE! There were 15 people there! haha. I have one more class today and it is Service Learning at 1:00. After I get done with that, I'm going to Dallas for the weekend to see Janna, but I'll be back Saturday night after stopping in Grand Saline to have dinner with my family and pick up a few things.
Sunday, I plan on going to church at FUMC in Jacksonville, so that should be good!
I got registered for class today, finally. Boy was that an exhausting journey. I had to run all over the campus to get information from different people, but I did meet some interesting people!
I'll give you my schedule here...
I know what you're thinking...
1.) Why don't you have any classes on Friday?
Well, I remember scheduling them on my "work sheet schedule" but since, those classes were full...it just happened to work out this way. Yay for 3 day weekends. :)
2.) How can you have two classes that meet at the exact same time?
You know that thing Hermione had...the "time turner" thing? Well i got one of those. Actually no, I'm just kidding...I talked to the Lab instructor and he has a service learning group and doesn't mind me being late to his lab.
3.) 16 hours?! Are you out of your mind?
Slightly, but you already knew that. There is not much to do around here, so it'll keep me busy. :)
The service learning teacher just adores me! She goes to the methodist church in town and said she'd introduce me to some people this coming Sunday, and let Jerry Compton, an old music director from Bay Harbour who is now at FUMC of Jacksonville, know that I'm there. She said there is an opening in the nursery, so maybe I can get a job. :)
Things are going very well here...but I checked my mailbox today and its empty!!! So, send me some mail please!!! I promise to write back. :)
Here...I'll leave you my address so you don't even have to email me...

I made it to college yesterday!!! hooray!
I got here and checked in to Brown Hall, only to find out that I don't have a room mate. SWEET! haha. So, I got all moved in, and then went to this thing they called "PlayFair". It was cool, I met a lot of new people and we played some dorky games, just like you usually play on the first day of summer camp, to get to know people.
When I was coming back from that, I saw my suite mate in the hallway. Turns out, she doesn't have a room mate either, So she moved into my room, and now we have an empty "party room" next door. Woo Hoo!! She's really cool. Her name is Rebecca and shes a drama major. :)
My friend Destiny, from Creek, is like 3 doors down and she's been hanging out in here a lot so thats cool.
and I saw my friend David at the president's talk last night so that was awesome. :D
So, It's been pretty awesome so far!! I'm getting a new cell phone today, so I might actually be able to call some of you! YaY!
I've started this blog for my friends and family back at home. It's basically just what's going on with me here at college. :)
